Welcome!

Milligan College Literature Enthusiasts Weblog

Greetings, the Milligan College English Department has recently created a web log through xanga.com devoted to the sharing and discussion of literature by enthusiasts in the Milligan College community. Although not much is up at the moment, eventually we hope this will prove to be an intellectual stomping ground for insightful and colorful meditation on one of humankind's greatest gifts--written language. In the mean time, you may take time to familiarize yourself with the layout of the site. You can even sign the guestbook with what you think or leave a comment on what you'd like to see. You can view the site even if you don't have a xanga.com account of your own, but in order to comment, you must sign up. It's free, of course, and pretty simple--even if you feel you are losing the fight against computer illiteracy. Steps on how to create your own xanga site appear below.

The Department hopes this endeavor will become the catalyst for an explosion of interest in not only literature of all kinds, but how it continues to touch lives throughout the ages.

Here's how to create your own xanga site:

1.) Go to www.xanga.com.

2.) Locate the "please sign in" box in the upper left-hand corner. Click on the "get a xanga site!" link inside the box.

3.) On the page the link leads you to, fill out each box with the information you want for your site. Be sure to select a creative username that you don't think someone else has already chosen. This username will help form the internet address of your site. Once your site is made, the address will be www.xanga.com/(your user name). So, be sure to choose one you don't mind people seeing. Finally, be sure to enter an email address you check often (your Milligan email will work fine if you don't have an email account with Yahoo, Hotmail or another email service), type the generated code in the box above it (the code is there to keep people from making programs that just go through and automatically register hundreds of sites at once), and check the box indicating you agree to xanga's terms of service.

4.) On the next page, all the information asked for is completely optional. So what you fill out is up to you. Many of these fields can make your site more interesting, but keep in mind that most of what you fill out can be seen on the internet. For certain fields (such as "last name" and "zip code") xanga does NOT allow the information you fill out to be publicly seen. If you have a picture (whether of yourself or not) that you wish to use to identify your site, you may upload one on this page (make sure it's saved to your computer first).

5.) Next are a few major parts of your site's layout. The site's name and tagline appear as headlines on your site. Also, here you can choose whichever template you wish to use for the site. Do not worry; if you want to edit these aspects later, you can, anytime after signing in to your created site.

6.) The following page allows you to inform friends that you have a xanga site via their email or their own xanga site username.

7.) After you are done, simply look for the collection of links below the invitation grid. In this collection, locate the "your site" link (between "xanga" and "terms" links) and select it.

8.) Congratulations! You are on your own xanga site. You can now further personalize and edit it to match your own style. Plus, you can upload pictures, upload videos, write your own web log entries, and even preview how the public sees your site. Be sure that you are signed in anytime that you want to edit or add anything to your site, and be sure to get the Milligan College Literature Enthusiasts site's new weblog entries in your inbox and subscriptions folder as soon as they are posted by clicking on the "subscribe" link on the left side of the site.
